Nagra III with modifications and accessories

Description

This sale is for a Nagra III with 2 special features. 1) The top plate is designed to accommodate 2  7-inch reels rather than the usual 2  5-inch reels. The plastic top cover closes and fastens to protect the turning reels if desired. In addition the recorder fits into a custom-made leather shoulder carry case for mobility - even while recording. The other modification is that the earphone jack has been converted from the typical 2-hole Nagra  jack to allow the use of a standard single earphone plug. (See close-up pic).The unit seems to be in working condition with one exception:
My findings when testing:  MECHANICAL - Powers up and runs well; loaded with tape, runs forward and rewinds. All rollers and switches and dials and tape spindels work smoothly: ELECTRONIC - Plays back a pre-recorded tape  - speaker, volume control and VU meter work as expected.   Fed it audio signal at Mike input and at Line input and both inputs were recognized at the VU meter which reacted to the input volume levels, but when I tried to play the recordings back the recorded audio played at a VERY low level. I tried to record again, turning up up the record volume as high as possible, but was not able to make an acceptable recording. So this is the one exception which keeps it from being a totally working unit.
