LOOKS ALMOST UNUSED EXCELLENT CROWN SERIES 800 MODEL 8800 REEL TO REEL RECORDER
Looks Almost Unused Crown Series 800 Model 8800 Reel To Reel Recorder. This is from the estate of a friend who was a meticulous collector. I've already sold several pieces of his MacIntosh collection here on eBay. I'm not an audiophile so I can't give you much technical information but here is what I've learned:
This was a machine with “quality” displayed all over it.  With a massive brushed front panel, oversize knobs, large VU meters, and about the finest tape threading path in the industry, this was a recorder that commanded instant respect. Crown International of Elkhart, Indiana never marketed a large number of recorder models, but every one that did come to market was a gem.
Speed accuracy: 99.8% / Crosstalk rejection: -55dB minimum / Total harmonic distortion: less than 1.5% for “0” VU at 1 kHz / Bias frequency: 100 kHz / Start time: less than 0.1 seconds to full speed / Stop time: 2" at 15 ips. 1" at 7½ ips and 0.5" at 3¾ ips / Fast wind speed: 38 seconds for 1200 ft, 58 seconds for 2400ft on 10½ inch reel / Inputs: four 100K unbalanced line / Dimensions: 17½ x 19 x 8" (444.5 x 483 x 203mm) / Weight: 50lbs without case (22.7kg)
The label partially hidden in one of the photos shows that the tape deck is Model SS 824
