The Pratt family and tools started nearly in the 1700's with Josiah Pratt being born in 1802!
Goodell-Pratt was an incredible tool company that formally started just 23 years after the American Civil Way, in 1888!
This vise is more than 100 years old and would make a great gift for day or a decoration piece for a workshop, shed or garage!
**Notice that this vintage vise has a much higher quality clamp knob, as well as, much higher quality (and intact!) clamp pad. Both the clamp know AND clamp pad are much higher quality than similar Craftsman, Stanley, Columbian or Wilton clamp-ons.
The main screw on these are covered from weld splatter by one of two guiding rods, that also make the vise very accurate.
The black "paint" that you see is actually the remains of an ancient chemical application called "Japanning" and is remiencent of the black lacquer found in Japanese furniture.
